The Weather

The weather in Cyprus can vary drastically depending on the season, so it is important to pack clothes accordingly.

In the summer, Cyprus is very hot and dry, with temperatures exceeding 40 º C during the peak. In July and August the temperature climbs over 45 º C, nights are 20 to 24 ºC.

Those who cannot endure the heat should visit in the optimal-temperature months of September and October.

In the winter the temperature is very low so it is advised to bring a warm coat, thermal vests and extra socks. The coldest months are January and February with an average maximum temperature of 15-16 º C. Temperatures under 0ºC is a rarity, although it is possible.

Spring and Autumn are the most optimal for visiting as the weather is neither hot or cold. This is March to May, and September to November.

The Airports

Cyprus has two main international airports: Larnaca International Airport (LCA) and Paphos International Airport (PFO), both located in the southern, internationally recognised part of the island. In addition, there is Ercan International Airport (ECN) in Northern Cyprus, which serves the Turkish-controlled region. While Larnaca and Paphos airports are accessible to EU and UK citizens with a valid passport or national ID, Ercan is only accessible via flights originating from Turkey.

EU and UK travelers can easily land at Larnaca or Paphos without the need for a visa for short stays (up to 90 days). However, for Ercan, the situation is different. Since it is not internationally recognized, flights to and from Ercan are considered domestic flights from Turkey. Travelers entering through Ercan must transit through Turkey first, and their entry requirements are governed by Turkish regulations. Travelers will be provided a visa of maximum 30 days. We recommend our customers NOT to get their passport stamped on entry at Ercan, as that would make their crossing to South Cyprus impossible. Always ask to get the stamp on a separate piece of paper.

To summarize, while landing at Larnaca or Paphos is straightforward for EU and UK citizens, accessing Ercan requires a connection via Turkey. Travelers should ensure their passport is valid and, in some cases, may need to show proof of onward travel.
